Barcelona

From Granada, we jumped on a one hour flight to Barcelona. Many parts of Barcelona reminded us of New York.  As we strolled down Passeig de Gracia, it felt as if Gaudi’s architecture had landed on Madison Avenue.
We, of course, saw La Sagrada Familia and La Perdera, and then continued on for a great meal at Tapac 24.

Staying in Barri Gotic, we also hung out at the beach.  We went to the aquarium, walked along the boardwalk, and got some lovely sunburns as an untold number of hours passed while we people watched.

Sadly, the highlight of our beach experience is not captured on film.  We didn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable, so we didn’t video the old man doing his “I’m naked on the beach and I’m happy” dance.  He was awesome, gamboling ankle-deep in the Mediterranean, pausing every 20 feet or so to face the sunbathers and do a little jig to the music in his head.  His wife and dog were among the spectators.  Periodically she joined his dance and sometimes the dog barked along with him.  Quite a sight!  Instead, you'll have to settle for pics of our drinks and desserts.  More sangria and churros con chocolate!

In addition to soaking up the tourist attractions, we rode the rails with the locals and hiked up to Park Guell.

We enjoyed the nighttime fountain at Plaza Catalunya, and made multiple trips to La Boqueria.  It was frenetic and alive, colorful and delicious.

The land part of our vacation complete, time to board the MSC Fantasia for a 7-night cruise through the Western Mediterranean.  Onward to France, Italy, and North Africa…
