New York City Marathon

This weekend we passed on our weekly tradition of brunch, in part because of the massive number of tourists in town for the marathon. The dominant reason though, was because after an unplanned hectic week, we did end up at Clinton Street Baking Company for dinner one night. Danny enjoyed the short ribs, we shared the goat cheese pizza and fried green tomatoes, and of course, I had the blueberry pancakes.

While the marathoners were out doing their 26.2 miles, I was riding the rails to Grand Street for a long-awaited visit to Doughnut Plant. Though Dunkin Donuts abound in my neighborhood and near school, they just can't compete with artisanal doughnuts and unique flavors including Valrhona chocolate, coconut creme, vanilla bean, and peanut butter and jelly. Courtesy of just five stops on the F train, I had an easy ride over to pick up my morning treats.

Danny was craving the yeasty sweet treats too, so we decided a dozen was in order. What better way to celebrate marathon Sunday when we intended to hide in the apartment watching tv and grading papers? Not to overload on chocolaty goodness, we decided to partake in the seasonal offerings including both cake and yeast pumpkin options which differ from the usual fall fare by including toasted pumpkin seeds on top. And of course, we had to sample Doughnut Plant classics like vanilla bean with raspberry jelly and tres leches:

All in all, not our healthiest decision, but certainly a tasty way to endure the necessary house and school work that needed doing this weekend. Perhaps next weekend we will return to our usual brunch options, which depending on where we eat, vary for Danny; however, you guys know my order...PANCAKES!
